At the Hotel Indigo Chicago - Vernon Hills, we take our Green Program seriously. We have instituted programs that save water, energy and reduce solid waste while offering the best non-intrusive, high quality, eco-friendly products and services to our guests.

Every associate within our hotel is a part of this mission to reduce harmful impact on our environment and our world. Our daily efforts to set the eco-standards in the hospitality industry have led us to offer our guests not only an excellent hotel experience, but also a change to take part in making our world a cleaner, healthier and safer place to live.

As we pursue our growth in the community and continue to develop our ecological practices, we aim to minimize our negative effects on the environment. We have chosen to make our hotel Green- and Eco-Friendly and simultaneously care for our environment while providing a comfortable and memorable experience for our guests. We do so by finding more ways to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and tackle the effects of climate change - including our hotel design, management tools, water conservation and energy efficiency projects, as well as climate - change awareness campaigns with associates and guests. The Supply Chain
Products that lower their environmental footprint

Aveda skin and hair care products are mindful of the need to reduce our environmental footprint in every package they develop. Most of their plastic bottles use a minimum of 80% PCR. They have calculated that this reduces our need for over 300 tons of virgin high density polyethylene on an annual basis.

Fair Trade Products

Coffee is one of the most consumed products in hotels, purchasing and providing only organic, fair trade or shade grown coffee looks to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them by safeguarding the rights and well-being of workers, conserving resources and protecting the environment.

Conservation & Recycling
Linen Reuse Program

"Conserving for Tomorrow" is an environmental program developed exclusively for our franchise company InterContinental Hotels Group. The program asks guests to use liens more than once to save on water, detergent and energy. For a 127-room hotel like the Hotel Indigo Vernon Hills, the program saves 7,200 gallons of water and 51 gallons of detergent per month. This also enables our guests to participate in our Green Program.

Forest Preservation

Starbucks and Conservation International are joining together with your help to plant trees in the coffee-growing communities of Chiapas, Mexico. This effort will contribute to the protection and restoration of forests, preserve rich biodiversity and address the critical issue of climate change.

Implementation and auditing of low flow systems for faucets, toilets, and showers

Recycling

• Rooms are cleaned with non-intrusive, environmentally-friendly products allowing water recycling.
• Staff recycling programs address glass, aluminum, paper and cardboard
• Elimated the use of styrofoam cups
• Unused amenity bottles and liens are donated to local charities.

Sustainable Products & Design

• Kirei board in the Lobby constructed from reclaimed agricultural fiber, an eco-friendly wood substitute
• Installed low VOC (volatile organic compound) wall covering
• Shaw Indigo wood laminate in the guest rooms is made using 70% pre-consumer recycled content
• Johnsonite Millwork Base - An economical alternative to real wood, Millwork contributes to forest conservation and because it doesn't need to be primed or painted reduces the chemicals and solvents in those finishing materials. Featured in guest rooms and guest corridors
• 3-From Eco-Resin Public Toilet Room Vanity is made using 40% pre-consumer recycled content and uses red post-consumer glass. The entire vanity can later be recycled
• Light fixtures are most compact fluorescent bulbs or energy star light bulbs.
• Guest both vanities made from Formica Brand Solid Surface are GreenGuard Certified
